AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Your tattoo may be covered with a breathable bandage. This is a breathable, flexible bandage that keeps your tattoo moisturized and protects your tattoo from bacteria. You should treat your tattoo as if it is an open wound. Keeping it clean and sanitary is essential for proper healing and to ensure your tattoo looks great once healed. If your breathable bandage becomes compromised by leaking, being torn, or peeling back so that air or fluids may reach the tattooed surface of the skin, please remove it immediately and clean with unscented antibacterial soap, then proceed to follow one of the typical aftercare methods below. If a breathable bandage was not applied, please skip to option 3.

1. IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO SANIDERM/TEGADERM AT HOME

You may remove the bandage after 24 hours and gently clean with unscented antibacterial soap, making sure to rinse all soap residue away. o Pat completely dry with a sanitary paper towel. Reapply Saniderm/Tegaderm, making sure to cover the entire tattooed area. If multiple pieces are needed, ensure that they overlap by half an inch at least. o Leave Saniderm/Tegaderm on for 7-9 days. Gently remove by peeling back under warm running water. For 2 days after removal, apply a very thin layer of included healing ointment. Continue using an unscented lotion on your tattoo for at least 2 weeks after using the ointment.

2. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO SANIDERM/TEGADERM AT HOME

You may leave the bandage on for 1 to 7 days to keep your tattoo protected from the elements. Your tattoo will continue to bleed and secrete plasma and ink. A pouch of fluid may form under the bandage and can vary in color depending on the inks used. Often a bubble of black fluid will form under the bandage. This is perfectly normal and part of the natural healing process. Do not remove the bandage unless it becomes compromised by leaking, tearing, or peeling back until the 7 day period has passed to achieve best healing results. After 1-7 days, your bandage may be removed by gently peeling back bandage under warm running water. For 2 days after removal, apply a very thin layer of included healing ointment. Continue using an unscented lotion on your tattoo for at least 2 weeks after using Aquaphor.

3. IF YOU REMOVE SANIDERM EARLY OR DO NOT WANT TO USE SANIDERM

Properly cleanse the tattooed area by using an unscented antibacterial soap and pat dry with a sanitary paper towel or lint-free cloth at least 3 times a day. Apply a very thin layer of the provided healing ointment or a tattoo healing ointment of your choosing 3 to 4 times a day. Do not allow your tattoo to dry out. (Provided packet may not be enough for most tattoos when using this method of healing and it will be the client’s responsibility to purchase an adequate healing ointment. We recommend Aquaphor, H2Ocean, Hustle Butter, Vitalitree or an antibiotic ointment. Please check ingredients on all products to avoid allergic reaction.)o For at least the first 2-6 weeks, minimize sun exposure and avoid swimming in fresh, salt, or chlorinated water. Use sterile bandages or dressings when necessary to keep your tattoo clean.
